About The Position

The Staff, Software Engineer plays a critical role in delivering scalable platform capabilities and driving the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. This position requires expertise in cloud-native architecture, AI/ML integration, and software security to build robust, modular solutions. The role involves technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment with business goals and engineering excellence. The engineer will apply data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement practices to enhance productivity and deliver high-quality software solutions that support Walmart’s strategic objectives. The Walmart International’s Last Mile Delivery team oversees the essential final phase of the supply chain across multiple regions. The team develops the Walmart Spark mobile app, delivering Android and iOS solutions for Last Mile Delivery drivers in various international markets. Engineers collaborate on mobile development, platform architecture, API design, DevOps, and prototyping, emphasizing data-driven decisions and continuous improvement. The team promotes innovation and operational excellence, ensuring dependable and timely delivery outcomes. Members apply strong technical expertise and a product-focused approach to address evolving business needs, optimizing performance within a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Requirements

• Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to deliver scalable and resilient platforms.
• Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to ensure maintainable and modular solutions.
• Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including CI/CD deployment, observability, and maintenance.
• Demonstrated ability in technical leadership and mentorship, fostering growth and guiding architectural decisions.
• Skilled in data-driven decision making to define metrics, optimize processes, and enhance engineering excellence.
• Solid background in platform design, DevOps engineering, and software security best practices.
• Effective problem-solving skills with a focus on technical delivery management and continuous improvement.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
• 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
• Creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

• Build high-quality user experiences across mobile platforms.
• Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap priorities.
• Hands-on mobile development experience, preferably with Android, Kotlin, Jetpack, app architecture, performance, and testing.
• Lead full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Conduct system design reviews to validate quality and alignment with architectural standards.
• Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components for automation and multi-step reasoning.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement through data-driven practices, innovation, and knowledge sharing.
