About The Position

Join an exciting software development team focused on connected medical devices. In this role you will design and develop data connectivity, interoperability, and secure software solutions for devices that acquire and exchange critical patient information in real time, with additional responsibilities in UI development and system integration. The Maternal Infant Care team is developing the future of medical technology for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Labor & Delivery environments. Our mission is to help send mothers and infants home healthy by building safe, reliable, and connected medical devices that support critical clinical care.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related STEM major with a minimum of 6 years of work experience as a software engineer in a product development team.
2+ years of experience in data connectivity, communication protocols, and system integration including HL7, FHIR, and healthcare interoperability standards.
1+ year of experience developing and supporting HL7-based interfaces and healthcare data exchange workflows.
1+ year of experience designing secure connected systems including authentication, encryption, secure communication, and device/network hardening.
Experience with cloud connectivity, IoMT architectures, and device-to-system data exchange.
Experience with UI/application layer development (e.g., Qt, web-based UI, or other frameworks) to support data visualization and user interaction.
Strong understanding of object-oriented design, Design patterns, Algorithms and data structures.

Nice To Haves

Strong analytical skills, with excellent problem-solving abilities and experience creating flexible code.
Experience with FHIR APIs, RESTful services, and modern healthcare interoperability frameworks.
Familiarity with clinical workflows and hospital system integration (EHR, EMR, LIS, PACS).
Understanding of data integrity, traceability, and auditability in regulated healthcare systems.
Experience troubleshooting real-world integration issues (message failures, latency, mismatched schemas, etc.).
Familiarity with healthcare data privacy regulations (HIPAA, GDPR where applicable).
Experience with event-driven architectures for clinical data exchange.
Experience using AI-assisted software development tools to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, and documentation while maintaining engineering rigor.
Strong understanding of threat modeling, risk assessments, and vulnerability management for connected systems.
Knowledge of identity and access management (IAM) concepts, including certificate-based authentication and role-based access control.
Familiarity with security standards and guidance for medical devices (e.g., FDA cybersecurity guidance, NIST frameworks).
Experience performing or supporting penetration testing, static/dynamic analysis, and security audits.
Knowledge of secure communication protocols (TLS, HTTPS, MQTT over TLS, VPNs).
Experience designing systems with defense-in-depth architectures and minimizing attack surfaces.
Awareness of cyber incident response, logging, monitoring, and forensic readiness.

Responsibilities

Responsible for embedded software of next generation medical devices in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Labor and Delivery space.
Work closely with a team of Software Engineers and across disciplines (Electrical Engineers, Systems Engineers, etc.) to translate system architecture and product requirements into well-designed software components.
Work in a fast paced, AI enhanced agile-scrum development environment.
Conduct technical design reviews to ensure the software meets security, reliability, and performance requirements.
Develop integrated software products with uncompromised quality (includes the use of static analysis tools, design reviews, code reviews).
Seek and provide feedback on design and development through collaboration with software architects and platform teams.
Design features with input from system architecture and product requirements to produce detailed architecture, detailed design, and software implementation.
Implement solutions that are aligned with and extend shared platforms and solutions.
Ensure compliance to quality practices and medical device standards for design and development.
Research new AI tools, technologies, and methodologies to keep our software on the cutting edge.
Understand the entire product, its modules, and the interrelationship between them while being an expert in the assigned component or module.
