Staff Software Engineer - Insurance
About The Position
Headway's mission is to build a new mental healthcare system everyone can access by solving the biggest barrier to care: insurance. We have automated the administrative work of credentialing, claims, and payment reconciliation. Over 75,000 providers across all 50 states use our software, serving over 1 million patients. We are developing tools for therapists to manage their practices, improving the experience of finding a therapist, and investing in platform foundations for scalability. Requirements
- A platform thinker who builds for teams behind them, creating abstractions that allow others to move faster and more safely.
- Ability to find structure in messy data and build systems that reason about it reliably, as payer rules vary by state, plan, and policy.
- Hands-on approach, writing code where leverage is highest and holding oneself to a high standard.
- Ability to own outcomes, not just tasks, by taking ambiguous problems and turning them into shipped software.
- Skill in defining solutions, pulling in the right people across teams, and maintaining momentum when priorities shift.
- Precise communication skills for design docs, Slack threads, and cross-team meetings.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and implementation of systems powering Headway's insurance operations, including patient identification, pricing estimates, provider matching, and claims.
- Build data-intensive, ML-powered platforms that serve patients and providers and learn from every visit.
- Mentor engineers.
- Write high-impact code at the intersection of healthcare data and payer operations.
