About The Position
Root is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead engineering for one or more teams within a product domain, such as Pricing, Underwriting, or Claims. The engineer will work closely with their teams to deliver valuable software and collaborate with stakeholders to define the domain’s strategy and roadmap. The role combines technical leadership, strategic planning, coaching, and strategic code contributions.
Requirements
- 7 or more years of experience as a software engineer.
- 3 or more years leading software teams.
- Expertise in Ruby on Rails.
- Familiarity with Rust.
- Proven leadership of projects involving multiple teams across functional domains.
- Excellent communication skills with engineering colleagues and senior business leaders.
Responsibilities
- Co-lead the team with the Engineering Manager, coaching and helping develop team members.
- Partner with Product, Data Science, Analytics, and Insurance experts to set strategy for upcoming quarters.
- Identify and communicate technical initiatives that improve products, systems, and team effectiveness.
- Contribute code strategically during each development cycle to advance the team's impact.
- Lead by example during incident response and drive continuous improvements to system resiliency and monitoring.
- Coordinate with Staff Engineers across the organization to establish and promote standards and best practices.
