Staff, Software Engineer - Full Stack
About The Position
The Staff, Software Engineer is a hands-on individual contributor responsible for designing, building, and operating Walmart's core transportation platform. This role combines technical leadership with software delivery, requiring engineers to write production code, lead architectural decisions, and own complex initiatives from design through deployment. The ideal candidate is a versatile full stack engineer with approximately 60% backend and 40% frontend experience across distributed systems, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and modern web applications. Requirements
- Extensive experience building cloud-native distributed systems using Java and modern backend frameworks.
- Strong full stack engineering experience with modern frontend technologies and backend services.
- Proven expertise designing scalable APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and DevOps.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted and agentic development tools to improve engineering productivity.
- Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture ownership, mentorship, and engineering influence.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with product, engineering, and business partners.
- Passion for solving complex technical challenges while delivering high-quality software at enterprise scale.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
- Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

- Serve as a hands-on technical leader by writing production code and driving architectural decisions.

- Build distributed systems, APIs, event-driven services, and modern user experiences.
- Leverage AI-native and agentic development tools to accelerate software delivery while maintaining high standards for quality and security.
- Mentor engineers, lead technical design reviews, and promote engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver scalable, business-critical solutions.
- Own solutions end-to-end, from architecture and implementation through deployment, observability, and continuous improvement.
