Staff Software Engineer, Experimentation Platform
About The Position
Discord is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of its next-generation experimentation platform. This role involves building state-of-the-art AI-assisted experimentation workflows, leading and mentoring engineers, and fostering their growth. The Experimentation team is responsible for creating the tools, systems, and processes that enable employees to test hypotheses and improve the product in a data-informed manner. Discord is a rapidly scaling company that prioritizes data in its decision-making and future growth, playing a unique role in the future of gaming.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience as a full-stack SWE.
- Experience building internal tools.
- Familiarity with A/B testing and statistical frameworks.
- Experience with experimentation tooling; experience building core parts of experimentation platforms from scratch is a huge plus.
- Extensive experience leading complex technical projects with successful outcomes.
- Ability to take a high-level goal and achieve a shippable solution.
- Experience building systems with strong data governance controls that respect privacy and security principles.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Experience with a variety of datastores (relational, NoSQL, data warehouse solutions).
- Strong product sense and communication skills.
- A track record of developing engineers at multiple levels.
- A habit of tracking industry trends to bring new techniques to technical problems.
Nice To Haves
- Experience building human-in-the-loop AI systems and AI product evaluation.
- Experience with cloud-computing platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or AWS.
- Experience with modern data processing stacks.
- Full-stack development or product engineering experience.
- Deep understanding of statistics, data science, or large scale data processing.
- Experience with Typescript or Rust is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and support Discord's next generation experimentation platform, including core services, data pipelines, configuration tooling, statistical analysis tools, and UX.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders and customers throughout the company.
- Understand and influence product telemetry practices to support experimentation needs.
- Use technical expertise to build delightful user experiences and high-scale data systems that power internal teams and product features used by millions of users daily.
