About The Position

Verily, a subsidiary of Alphabet, uses a data-driven approach to transform health management and healthcare delivery. Launched from Google X in 2015, its mission is to bring precision health to everyone daily by generating and activating data from various sources, including clinical, social, behavioral, and real-world data, to find optimal solutions based on comprehensive evidence. Verily's expertise in technology, data science, and healthcare empowers the entire healthcare ecosystem to achieve better health outcomes. The Developer Platform team is responsible for building a cloud-native developer platform (PaaS) that supports the end-to-end software development lifecycle for over 600 engineers at Verily. This team aims to provide a fast, enjoyable, scalable, and secure developer experience through integrated capabilities such as application templates, developer portals, CI, CD, and other functional areas. It is a product-oriented, highly effective, world-class platform engineering team that significantly impacts Verily's software development process. As part of this team, you will collaborate with engineers who have contributed to successful projects like Kubernetes, Istio, and Firebase.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience in software engineering.
  • 8+ years experience developing and maintaining reliable, scalable, and secure products and services in production in Go, Python, C++, or similar programming languages.
  • Prior experience with cloud technologies: Google Cloud Platform/Amazon Web Services/Azure or other cloud providers, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Backstage, or related tools.
  • Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and system design with strong analytical and debugging skills.
  • Strong communication skills in scenarios like deriving requirements from customers, articulating the scope of a problem, or documenting a proposed system design.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep knowledge of Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with microservices, software delivery platforms, DevSecOps, continuous integration, and release management processes.
  • 2+ years experience working in a centralized developer platform team.
  • Passionate about developer experience with a high empathy for users.

Responsibilities

  • Own the vision, roadmap, and execution for a broad functional area and set the technical direction and priorities for other team members.
  • Design and develop capabilities that leverage state-of-the-art cloud-native open source components (e.g. Kubernetes, Backstage, ArgoCD, Terraform).
  • Scope tasks and set priorities for other team members contributing to your objectives.
  • Drive execution through high-quality implementation and set an example of best practices in code health and production (e.g. monitoring, frequent releases, reliable CI).
  • Collaborate with the engineering team on system architecture and integrations.
