Staff Software Engineer, Developer Experience — Moveworks

ServiceNowMountain View, CA
$166,500 - $291,400Onsite

About The Position

The Developer Experience team at Moveworks operates within the Platform organization with a specific focus on building products and platforms for developers working within Moveworks customer environments. These developers build on top of the Moveworks Agentic AI platform. The team's primary goal is to increase the 'supply' of developer output, meaning enabling more developers to ship integrations faster and create higher-quality skills or workflows. This, in turn, compounds value for the end-users of the assistant. The team emphasizes building platforms first, creating scalable, general-purpose developer infrastructure upon which products are built. They operate at the intersection of platform engineering discipline and developer-facing product thinking. As a Staff Engineer, you will be the technical backbone of the team, tackling complex platform challenges related to generality, scalability, and extensibility, with developer experience as the key metric for success. You will think in terms of systems, considering the right abstractions, future-proofing for two years ahead, and building dependable solutions for developers in customer environments. Beyond architecture, you will be responsible for shipping code and bringing others along.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience designing, building, and operating production systems; significant experience on platform or infrastructure teams
  • Proven ability to build general-purpose, developer-facing platforms — SDKs, APIs, developer tooling, or integration frameworks — at scale
  • Strong distributed systems fundamentals: service reliability, API design, performance, fault tolerance, and operational observability
  • Backend engineering depth in Python and/or Go (or equivalent); fluent in microservices and cloud-native patterns
  • Experience building platforms that other engineers build on top of — you understand what makes an abstraction good vs. leaky
  • Product sensibility for developer experience: you can feel the difference between a platform that delights and one that frustrates, and you close that gap

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building agentic systems, LLM-powered developer tooling, or AI-assisted development products
  • Familiarity with developer ecosystem growth — activation funnels, SDK adoption, developer community feedback loops
  • Exposure to enterprise developer environments and the constraints they impose (auth, sandboxing, compliance, multi-tenancy)

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the core developer platforms that power the MW developer ecosystem — SDKs, APIs, runtime abstractions, tooling infrastructure, and developer-facing services
  • Own end-to-end delivery of agentic developer products that increase developer productivity: faster time-to-market, higher-quality artifacts, lower integration friction
  • Define the platform primitives that other products and teams build on — with a strong bias toward generality, reliability, and clean abstractions
  • Drive measurable improvements in developer supply metrics: developer activation, integration velocity, quality of published artifacts, and ecosystem breadth
  • Lead technical strategy for your platform areas — roadmap input, API design, and cross-team technical alignment
  • Set the engineering bar: architecture reviews, design standards, observability, and operational excellence
  • Mentor senior engineers and raise the team's overall technical depth

Benefits

  • Flexible scheduling
  • Remote work options
  • Required in office work persona
