Staff Software Engineer, Developer Ecosystem
About The Position
Reddit is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join their developer ecosystem team. This role will focus on shaping the future of the developer platform by working across backend, platform, and full-stack systems to make it easier for external developers to build applications on Reddit. The engineer will help define technical direction, lead initiatives, and build foundational elements for new developer experiences. This position requires close collaboration with engineers, product managers, designers, and other teams to solve complex problems and bring ambitious ideas to fruition. The ideal candidate enjoys building new things, working across technical boundaries, and enhancing developer productivity.
Requirements
- 6+ years of industry experience working on platform functionality, developer tools, full-stack products, or app platforms.
- Experience leading large-scale technical projects from design through delivery.
- Strong backend or platform engineering experience, along with the ability to work across the stack when needed.
- Familiarity with technologies such as C++, Java, Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, or React.
- A habit of using AI tools in your daily work to improve productivity and software quality.
- A track record of mentoring engineers and raising the bar for software engineering practices.
- A passion for building high-quality software that people enjoy using.
- An entrepreneurial mindset: you’re self-directed, curious, comfortable with ambiguity, and eager to turn ideas into action.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment and explain complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities
- Build and evolve the core platform services and capabilities that power the developer experience.
- Create new capabilities that help external developers build great apps on Reddit.
- Contribute across the full development cycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
- Review code, design documents, product specifications, and user experiences.
- Help shape team strategy and the future direction of the platform.
- Share knowledge, mentor teammates, and contribute to a culture of thoughtful ownership.
