The Consumer Weather Science team is responsible for the scientific foundation of weather.com, the Weather Channel mobile apps, and labs.weather.com. This team incubates, validates, and graduates vertical consumer experiences (e.g., sailing, kiteboarding, golf, pollen, hiking, ski, fishing, gardening) into flagship products. As a member of this small, senior team of scientist-engineers, you will own the entire process from atmospheric model output to consumer experience, collaborating closely with product, design, and engineering teams across the company. Your role will involve owning the technical and scientific delivery of one or more consumer vertical experiences, translating model output, observations, and AI-derived insights into APIs, data services, and product integrations for hundreds of millions of users. Initially, your focus will be on outdoor sports, with the potential to expand into other verticals as the product pipeline evolves. You will act as the science-side product owner for these verticals, defining experiences with product and design partners, developing the data backend, coordinating model evaluation with research scientists, integrating LLM-driven content generation (AI briefings, condition explanations, alerts), and guiding experiences from experimentation to flagship status. This is a senior individual contributor position where you will define technical direction and represent the science and engineering perspective in cross-functional teams.
