The Community Builders organization empowers anyone to create and steer a thriving community by making community building intuitive, sustainable, and rewarding. The Engagement team within Community Builders focuses on cultivating Reddit's community growth, helping new communities find their audience and build momentum. This team uses data, ML-powered signals, and product experimentation to remove barriers to sustainable growth, aiming for thriving communities where moderators are engaged, members return, and content compounds. This is a Growth team that moves with urgency, instruments everything, and learns from missed milestones to improve the health of Reddit itself.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience.
- Experience steering cross-team projects that solved tangible business problems.
- A systems thinker who sees how code, product, and team dynamics influence each other.
- A mentor who helps other engineers level up and works through complex problems effectively.
- Deeply data-informed and logical, ensuring metrics are part of the design process.
- Comfortable with growth-team ambiguity and speed, including prototyping fast and adapting to changing plans.
- Clear, transparent communication skills, able to distill complex technical trade-offs for any audience.
- Experience with ranking, recommendations, and personalization.
- Proven track record of working on ML-heavy products.
- Ability to design backend architectures, retrieval systems, and inference pipelines for ML products.
- Understanding of candidate generation and scoring nuances.
- Ability to partner effectively with Machine Learning engineers to turn model outputs into high-impact product features.
Responsibilities
- Foster and Guide the Technical Strategy for Growth
- Define and accelerate the backend architecture powering the team's core growth levers, including systems for community visibility and member participation.
- Partner With the EM to Cultivate a Growth Engineering Mindset, prioritizing experimentation and iteration.
- Scale Impact Through Collaborative Engineering by building and maintaining partnerships with other engineering teams (Relevance, Feeds, Search) and influencing their roadmaps.
- Instrument, Measure, and Iterate by establishing instrumentation and experimentation foundations for A/B tests and translating data into architectural choices.
- Guide Cross-Functional Alignment by serving as the engineering voice in partnerships with Product, Design, and Data Science, aligning stakeholders on technical feasibility and tradeoffs.
- Raise the Bar on Engineering Excellence by advocating for reliability, scalability, and maintainability, leading design reviews, and establishing patterns for the organization.
