Staff Software Engineer, Billing and Monetization
About The Position
Hercules is looking for a Staff Billing and Monetization engineer to build and own our billing, payments, and monetization infrastructure. You will own everything billing and monetization at Hercules, including billing and subscriptions (Plans, subscriptions, entitlements, prorations, credits, and one-time charges), usage-based billing (AI credits, Cloud credits, usage metering, and overage charges), payments and providers (Integrations with popular payment providers like Stripe, Adyen, Paypal and other popular payment providers), Hercules Commerce (The billing and payment capabilities our customers can use inside their apps to transact with their customers), and ensuring latency, reliability, and scale for fast, resilient infrastructure with robust webhook processing, retries, and reconciliation as usage and transaction volumes grow.
Requirements
- Extensive experience with billing and payments providers like Stripe, Adyen, etc.
- Experience with subscriptions and usage-based billing.
- Understanding of billing regulations.
- Strong software fundamentals including system design, architecture, data modeling, and API design.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable code.
- Experience working effectively in monorepos.
- Proven track record of independently shipping features to customers.
- Familiarity with AI for workflow enhancement.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with TypeScript, React, containers, Postgres, Redis, and Temporal.
- Experience with AI Models like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google.
Responsibilities
- Own everything billing and monetization at Hercules
- Develop and manage billing and subscriptions, including plans, subscriptions, entitlements, prorations, credits, and one-time charges.
- Implement usage-based billing systems for AI credits, Cloud credits, usage metering, and overage charges.
- Integrate with popular payment providers such as Stripe, Adyen, and PayPal to support a wide range of payment methods and currencies.
- Build Hercules Commerce, enabling customers to transact with their customers within their applications.
- Ensure the development of fast, resilient infrastructure with robust webhook processing, retries, and reconciliation to handle growing usage and transaction volumes.
