About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer on Coinbase’s FinHub - Transfers team within the Platform group, you will own the architectural direction of systems that power crypto and fiat fund movements across Coinbase. The team builds a high-scale distributed financial platform that enables fund movement for Retail, Prime, Exchange, International, and Payments products. You will make key technical decisions, improve reliability and scalability, and lead cross-functional initiatives affecting how customers move money on Coinbase. Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
  • Demonstrated experience owning architectural direction and making technical decisions that shape a team’s or domain’s long-term trajectory.
  • Deep expertise in backend programming, such as Go, Ruby, Python, or Java, and cloud-native architecture.
  • Proven ability to design highly available, high-throughput systems where correctness is critical.
  • Track record delivering and scaling financial systems, fund movement platforms, or similarly high-reliability domains where transaction integrity, idempotency, and auditability are core requirements.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives, mentoring engineers, and translating complex distributed systems problems into architectural decisions and actionable roadmaps.
  • Ability to use generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical architecture of Transfers’ fund movement systems, including design decisions about distributed system structure, correctness guarantees, and scalability across crypto and fiat rails.
  • Lead complex, cross-team engineering initiatives from start to finish, partnering with Payments, Trading, and product engineering teams to deliver fund movement capabilities and platform improvements.
  • Evolve Transfers’ backend infrastructure using modern cloud-native patterns and identify scaling bottlenecks before they affect customers.
  • Establish engineering standards, code review practices, and architectural patterns to improve quality and reduce operational risk in high-correctness financial systems.
  • Mentor engineers across levels on system design, distributed systems practices, and building reliable production services.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • 401(k).
  • Total compensation may include equity and bonus eligibility.
