Staff Software Development Engineer

BeyondTrustToronto, ON

About The Position

BeyondTrust is seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer to help lead the evolution of the Pathfinder products within our cloud offering. You will be at the forefront of designing and building a new platform-native module, along with scalable, secure, and extensible services that power our SaaS offerings. As the technical owner of the NHI Governance domain, you will lead the server-side loop – discover, assess, and remediate non-human identities (service accounts, workload identities, secrets and keys, and AI agents) across cloud and on-premise environments. As a technical leader on the team, you will own architecture for complex systems, define the interfaces and contracts that other teams build upon, and drive technical direction across cross-functional efforts, solving complex identity and security challenges at scale.

Requirements

  • Expertise in architecting and developing microservices and cloud-native solutions.
  • Strong programming skills in C#, Go, TypeScript, Java, or other modern languages, with deep experience in API design and microservices architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with Claude Code (or comparable agentic AI coding tools) to design, build, and review software at high velocity, with the judgment to establish effective patterns and guardrails for the team.
  • Experience designing systems, interfaces, and contracts consumed by multiple teams or products.
  • Strong, hands-on AWS expertise in designing, hosting, and operating production applications at scale, including compute (e.g., EKS), networking, IAM, managed data stores, and sound scaling, reliability, and cost trade-offs.
  • Understanding of CICD strategies and hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Familiarity with data modeling, exploration, and visualization at scale.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-team technical initiatives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity while driving the technical direction.
  • Familiarity with modern observability and test strategies in cloud environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Domain experience in identity security: IAM, NHI/Secrets, cloud IAM (AWS IAM, Microsoft Entra ID), OAuth/OIDC.
  • Graph databases, graph data modeling, and analytics at scale.
  • Experience building multi-tenant shared services consumed by other engineering teams.
  • Full-stack familiarity (e.g., a modern JavaScript framework such as Angular or React with TypeScript) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain highly scalable and resilient platform services, APIs, and data pipelines.
  • Own architecture for complex, cross-cutting systems and define the interfaces and contracts other teams depend on.
  • Provide technical oversight and lead design for complex projects that span multiple teams.
  • Review functional and technical requirements to identify gaps and limitations, propose simplifications, and communicate ideas effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, promoting best practices in security, operational excellence, and cloud-native development.
  • Contribute to platform-wide initiatives, aligning technical strategy with business goals across BeyondTrust.
  • Drive quality, observability, and performance across the services your team owns.
  • Help resolve ambiguity to ensure work is properly defined, scoped, and sequenced.

Benefits

  • flexibility
  • trust
  • continual learning
