About The Position

Manifold is seeking a Staff Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join their team. This role operates at the intersection of AI, data infrastructure, and life sciences. The SRE will be responsible for designing, building, and operating the multi-account AWS infrastructure that supports Manifold’s platform. The position involves close collaboration with Platform Engineering and Professional Services teams to ensure the infrastructure is secure, scalable, and observable. The ideal candidate will be proficient across a diverse tech stack, comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-threaded environment, and possess a balance of automation bias and pragmatic decision-making. The infrastructure managed by this role is critical to Manifold's success in helping customers accelerate the delivery of life-changing medicines.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering roles with increasing scope and autonomy.
  • Deep, hands-on cloud experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Hands-on application development experience and comfort in troubleshooting application issues.
  • Significant infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) experience.
  • Strong CI/CD (Github Action) experience.
  • Familiarity with identity systems (Okta, Auth0).
  • Familiarity with containerized deployments (Docker, ECS, Packer).
  • Familiarity with networking tooling (Tailscale, WireGuard).
  • Working knowledge of data platform services, such as Snowflake, Airflow, dbt, and PostgreSQL.
  • Comfort managing complex, multi-account environments with customer isolation, security boundaries, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to move fast, make sound calls with available information, and reset quickly when things don't go as planned.
  • Strong bias towards pragmatic, incremental process automation.
  • Proven track record of improving developer experience and reducing CI/CD friction.
  • Ability to effectively and positively collaborate with platform engineers, professional services, and customer IT groups.
  • Experience building AI into work processes, curiosity about new tools, resourcefulness in applying them, and concrete examples of AI impacting output.
  • Understanding of the importance of accelerating life sciences research and ability to articulate personal connection to the mission.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain infrastructure as code solutions, considering topology and component dependencies, with full responsibility for Terraform plans to production observability.
  • Automate customer infrastructure deployments, including multi-account provisioning, database setup, workflow orchestration, and application bootstrapping.
  • Manage CI/CD pipelines, focusing on build reliability, test stability, and deployment automation for Manifold services.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across infrastructure, data, and application layers, leveraging LLMs to minimize toil and manage daily operations.
  • Perform networking and security/compliance work necessary for highly regulated environments.
