Staff Security Engineer, AI

Gradial•Seattle, WA
•$220,000 - $265,000

About The Position

Gradial is hiring its first dedicated security engineer to own product and platform security end to end as the company scales its AI-native system for enterprise marketing. This is a hands-on Staff individual-contributor role responsible for setting security technical direction, building high-impact systems and controls, and partnering closely with engineering. The position works alongside the IT and compliance lead, who owns GRC and corporate IT, and has significant autonomy to prioritize security investments. The engineer will help secure agentic systems and represent Gradial’s technical security approach to enterprise customers, while contributing to the growth of the future security team.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of security engineering experience, including Principal- or Staff-level ownership across complex production systems.
  • Deep product security experience across threat modeling, secure architecture, authentication and authorization, and multi-tenant systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with cloud security, Kubernetes, IAM, and infrastructure as code.
  • A strong technical point of view on securing LLM and agent-based systems, with ability to reason about emerging risks from first principles.
  • Experience leading security incident response for production services and improving systems based on lessons learned.
  • Track record of writing and shipping production code, security tooling, or infrastructure, rather than only reviewing others’ work.
  • Strong judgment and comfort making pragmatic security tradeoffs in fast-moving environments without an established playbook.
  • Clear communication with engineers, company leadership, and enterprise customer security teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an early security hire at a high-growth B2B SaaS, AI, or infrastructure company.
  • Experience building security detections, telemetry, and logging pipelines in cloud environments.
  • Experience implementing technical controls for SOC 2 or ISO 27001, or contributing to AI security research, standards, or open-source security tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive product and platform security strategy, prioritizing investments according to the risks that matter most as the company scales.
  • Lead threat modeling for the agentic platform and design protections for agent behavior, permissions, isolation, customer data, and platform boundaries.
  • Harden application and cloud infrastructure, including production access, IAM, secrets management, and the CI/CD supply chain.
  • Partner with engineering to build secure-by-default patterns into the design and delivery of agents, services, and infrastructure.
  • Own platform security detection and incident response, including logging standards, detection coverage, and response processes.
  • Represent technical security in enterprise customer reviews and architecture discussions, clearly explaining Gradial’s approach to customer security teams.
  • Own technical controls supporting SOC 2 in partnership with the IT and compliance lead, ensuring controls remain effective as systems evolve.
  • Identify future security capability needs and help hire future security team members.

  • Performance-based annual bonus.
  • Meaningful equity awards.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage fully covered for employees and 75% covered for dependents.
  • Fertility and family-planning support.
  • 401(k) plan.
  • Unlimited PTO.
  • Seattle office with a gym, sauna, and bike parking.
  • Free lunch three days a week at headquarters.
  • Competitive compensation and flexible work hours.
