About The Position

Our Thousand Oaks office in the California Division is a well-respected group of experienced environmental professionals where career development, training, and mentoring co-exist with diverse environmental, water resources and stormwater projects in a fast-paced and challenging work environment. We are seeking a talented Staff Scientist to support our environmental teams in the SoCal. The selected candidate will provide support on projects and will be responsible for performing field and office duties for projects with varying degrees of complexity.

Requirements

  • BS / BA in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or another related field.
  • Previous experience with environmental field sampling for data collection and documentation preferred.
  • Strong technical writing skills, the ability to successfully multi-task, safety awareness, and a good record and understanding of safe work practices.
  • Team oriented but able to work independently.
  • Project planning skills for permitting, scheduling, and resource coordination.
  • Can direct and oversee field subcontractor operations and safety compliance.
  • Light construction or environmental experience/hands-on skills a plus.
  • Experience with data management and report preparation.
  • Ability to edit or assist with Phase I and II ESA reports is preferred.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER, 8-hour refresher, and supervisor certification preferred.
  • A valid driver's license, good driving history and reliable transportation are required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. Experience with database, drafting, and/or project management software a plus.

Nice To Haves

  • Light construction or environmental experience/hands-on skills a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to and work at various environmental sites for assessment, monitoring, and data collection from soil and groundwater. Sites are primarily located throughout Southern California.
  • Collect soil, groundwater, soil-gas, air, and/or building material samples.
  • Oversee field assessment activities including soil logging, well installation, air monitoring, safety compliance, and geophysical surveys.
  • Gather, collate, analyze, and interpret chemical data in various media.
  • Input collected data and laboratory analyses into spreadsheet tables and reports.
  • Actively develop your career growth with writing skills toward project management.
