We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The E&E Richmond office of Schnabel is seeking a Staff Scientist to join our team of multi-disciplinary professionals. We are looking for a motivated candidate able to learn quickly, with a desire to develop both field and analytical skills, and a desire to be part of a strong team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in either: Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or other related fields
  • 0-3 years of professional experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Willingness and ability to perform outdoor field work, work outside of normal business hours, and overnight travel
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outside
  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment screening (including drug screening)

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship or professional work in a related field (i.e. water sampling, field documentation, laboratory analysis, etc.)
  • Experience using Autodesk’s Civil 3D or GIS software packages
  • OSHA and/or HAZWOPER certifications

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and collect field data working within a project team environment
  • Participate in Health and Safety Plan preparation, daily safety meetings, and OSHA, HAZWOPER, and site-specific safety training
  • Perform site inspections and investigations, including stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) inspections, wetland delineations, and erosion and sediment control inspections
  • Support civil and environmental engineering staff and projects with the preparation of construction permit documents, including land-disturbance permitting, solid waste permitting, and other permitting required for project construction
  • Support contractor bid analysis and review for various civil and environmental projects
  • Review and interpretation of laboratory and field data
  • Oversight of subcontractors including laboratories, drillers, supply vendors
  • Observation and oversight of drilling including soil/rock logging and installation of instrumentation
  • Assist in inspection of site environmental conditions
  • Record field notes and document detailed site information
  • Summarize and interpret environmental data on maps
  • Technical writing and preparation of technical regulatory reports
