Staff RN - Surgical Short Stay Unit (Nights)

OhioHealthColumbus, OH
Onsite

About The Position

The Surgical Short Stay unit (SSU) primarily sees post-operative patients who require a 24-hour stay or less, as well as several same-day surgery patients. The unit's goal is to discharge patients quickly and safely once discharge criteria are met. Upon arrival, patients are expected to meet goals of walking, tolerating solid foods, voiding spontaneously, and having pain under control. Common surgeries include Hysterectomy, hernia repair, Thyroidectomy, lap cholecystectomy, lap appendectomy, excision of endometriosis, robotic prostatectomy, nephrectomy, and transurethral resection of the prostate. This is a primary care unit without PSAs, and due to the short patient stay, baths are not typically administered. Nurses are responsible for taking vitals, checking blood sugars as ordered, tracking urine output, walking patients, and responding to call lights. The unit is supported by an Administrative Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Manager, and a Clinical Leader for SSU. This position provides general nursing care to patients and families across the health-illness continuum in diverse healthcare settings, collaborating with the healthcare team. The nurse is accountable for the practice of nursing as defined by the Ohio Board of Nursing. As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency in performing job duties. The job profile provides an overview and is not exhaustive.
