About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Staff Resident Engineer to join our Resilience Water construction management team in Chicago, IL. This is a part-time as needed (PTAN), on-site role focused on a variety of construction types, with an immediate focus on lead service line inventory and replacement in South Suburban Cook County. The Staff Resident Engineer will become a member of our talented team of construction management professionals that focus on delivering exceptional project outcomes with outstanding client service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Engineering or similar
  • 4 years of experience in construction management/construction inspection on civil works projects (earthwork, dams, roads, utilities, infrastructure, paving, pumping stations, water and wastewater treatment plants, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • PE, or CCM Certification.
  • Familiarity with lead service line inventory/replacement and buried water/wastewater infrastructure.
  • Experience using MS SharePoint, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), AutoDesk Construction Cloud (ACC), ESRI Field Maps App, and PDF editing tools (Bluebeam Revu).
  • Ability to interact effectively with the Construction Contractor management personnel and crew; this includes utilities, state, local, and federal agencies.
  • Demonstrate independent and effective problem-solving/decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Manage exciting and challenging water, wastewater, and related infrastructure projects from the pre-bid through completed construction phases.
  • Work closely with clients, engineers, contractors, and residents, demonstrating a strong understanding of the process and be able to manage day-to-day construction oversight and resident engineer inspection efforts.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the contractor and design staff to address RFIs and review shop drawings.
  • Providing technical reviews of construction plans, specifications, and project changes to ensure constructability and practicality.
  • Ensuring accurate record-keeping, process contractor payments, draft and negotiate field change orders, and compile required reports and deliverables.
  • Managing staff safety, regulatory compliance, permit adherence, and coordination with regulatory agencies.
  • Interfacing with residents including completing service line inspections inside the home and distributing written notification of pipe material.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of inspection reports that meet client requirements while monitoring contractor performance, schedule compliance, and responsiveness.
