About The Position

The Siri organization is seeking a Staff Research Scientist to help develop a deeply personal, integrated assistant powered by Apple Intelligence. The work may affect users across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS, with privacy, safety, reliability, and user-centered design as important considerations. The role is part of an incubation team that ideates, prototypes, and ships high-impact user experiences, collaborating across software, hardware, and design to develop capabilities for Siri and speech-related products such as Dictation. The position leads end-to-end incubations, from early ideation through deployment, using state-of-the-art machine learning research, algorithmic innovation, and agentic systems to address challenges with immediate and long-term company-wide impact. The successful candidate will work at the frontier of applied research, communicate with executives and cross-functional partners, and may publish findings and engage with the broader academic community while delivering products at Apple's global scale.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, or an equivalent track record of incubating and shipping ML features, platforms, and/or products.
  • At least 5 years of industry experience working within an ML team.
  • Deep understanding of the ML model lifecycle for large-scale systems.
  • Demonstrated ML expertise and a publication record at relevant conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, KDD, ACL, ICASSP, or InterSpeech.
  • Proficient modeling skills and deep familiarity with toolkits such as JAX, PyTorch, and/or TensorFlow.
  • Track record of identifying the right problems, taking calculated risks, and shipping at scale.
  • Deep intellectual curiosity and ability to operate at the frontier of applied research.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to influence high-level architecture decisions and advocate for novel research directions with product and executive leadership.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to translate complex technical work for a broad audience.
  • Experience working across hardware, software, and design partnerships to bring ML capabilities to production.
  • Passion for building AI that is technically rigorous and meaningfully human.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end incubations from early ideation through deployment.
  • Apply state-of-the-art ML research, algorithmic innovation, and agentic systems to high-impact challenges.
  • Ideate, prototype, and ship user experiences and capabilities for Siri and speech-related products such as Dictation.
  • Partner across software, hardware, and design to bring new capabilities into production.
  • Communicate and align with executives and cross-functional partners.
  • Publish research findings and engage with the broader academic community when the work breaks new ground.
