About the Role We are seeking a research scientist to join our print development organization, a collaborative team that enjoys a positive, supportive work environment and group social events. In this role, you will work between the hardware and materials organizations to plan and run research projects focused on improving our patented 3D printing processes. The ideal candidate will design lab experiments to explore how printing and processing conditions impact how parts perform, while collaborating with partners to help scale these processes to larger production volumes. This position perfectly combines hands-on laboratory work with clear communication, requiring you to write up your results and share findings with our broader team of engineers and scientists. This role is based in Sunnyvale, CA and requires being onsite Mon - Friday. This role is not eligible for relocation. This role is not eligible for current Visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent or higher degree in chemistry, material science, polymer chemistry, chemical engineering.
  • Previous laboratory experience working with chemistry or materials.
  • A highly motivated, problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to design and execute experimental plans involving materials and/or chemistry.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in proper chemical handling and processing protocols (preferred).
  • Experience in material property characterization or dimensional accuracy (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Work at the interface of print development and materials development to understand and improve Carbon’s additive manufacturing process.
  • Plan and carry out research projects focused on developing new processes and testing methods.
  • Design and execute experimental plans to test how print and bake parameters influence accuracy and material properties.
  • Work with Carbon’s production partners to ensure successful application transfer and scale up (some travel required).
  • Summarize your research, write technical reports detailing methods and findings, and present your work to other chemists, engineers, and scientists.
