Staff Quality Engineer

Relativity Space•Cape Canaveral, FL
•$133,000 - $199,000•Onsite

About The Position

The Staff Quality Engineer provides technical leadership and strategic direction for quality engineering activities across Test and Launch at Relativity Space. The role establishes project goals, priorities, risk-based approaches, and completion criteria for complex, high-impact initiatives. It owns improvements to in-process build verification, issue ticket workflows, as-built verification, and non-conformance management, while developing and improving quality processes, work instructions, corrective action strategies, and standardized rework and repair documentation. The position partners with the AS9100 Quality Management System team to develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and quality standards for Test and Launch. It leads cross-functional resolution of systemic quality issues, analyzes quality and performance data to identify trends and root causes, and develops corrective and preventive actions to improve reliability, process capability, and operational performance. The engineer communicates quality strategies, recommendations, risks, and program impacts to technical leaders and management, promotes scalable quality practices, and mentors engineers and cross-functional partners. The role is part of the Launch team, which works across Terran R stages, payloads, ground systems, launch, landing, and refurbishment. The position is based on work supporting Test and Launch operations and may require occasional night shifts, weekend work, and travel. Candidates must clear a U.S. government background check for on-site work at a government partner location in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related STEM field.
  • 10 or more years of experience in quality engineering, quality management, manufacturing quality, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles and quality methodologies to analyze complex technical issues, evaluate product and process risks, and develop effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Experience leading complex cross-functional projects from problem definition through implementation and sustained results, including setting priorities, managing technical risk, and driving execution across teams.
  • Ability to influence technical and operational decisions without direct authority and build alignment across engineering, manufacturing, test, launch, and quality organizations.
  • Strong understanding of quality systems, manufacturing processes, and product lifecycle considerations, including identifying systemic issues and developing scalable solutions.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings, quality risks, recommendations, and program-level impacts effectively to engineers, technical leaders, and management.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, influencing best practices, and raising the technical and operational quality standards of a team or organization.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where priorities may shift and decisions may need to be made with incomplete information.
  • Ability to support occasional night shifts and weekend work and travel as required by Test and Launch operations.
  • Must clear a background check administered by the U.S. government to obtain clearance for on-site work at a government partner location in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
