About The Position

The Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) Staff Psychologist provides functional assessment, triage, brief intervention, education, and consultation for a broad range of concerns in primary care. Consistent with the VA Whole Health philosophy, the psychologist promotes awareness of how mental and behavioral health contributes to wellness and overall health outcomes. The role uses a population-based care and public health approach, recognizes the primary care provider (PCP) as the overall leader of the treatment team, and seeks to extend services to as many Veterans as possible. The psychologist accepts referrals from PCPs and other Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) members and supports guideline-concordant treatment within primary care. This is a full-performance-level staff psychologist position. The psychologist is licensed to practice independently, consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate. Staff psychologists may work in a variety of VHA programs and settings and may diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological or neuropsychological assessments, provide treatment through a range of modalities, offer adjunctive interventions for medical disorders, consult with medical center staff, and participate in program evaluation, teaching, training, and research. The position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Telework is not authorized, and this is not a virtual position. Recruitment or relocation incentives and permanent change-of-station assistance are not authorized. The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program, subject to individual eligibility and program approval; an application must be submitted within four months of appointment. The program office determines the award (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) after review.
