About The Position

As an active member of the Medical Staff, is responsible for providing high quality, appropriate care to assigned inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, and/or residential program patients, in accordance with accepted Medical Staff standards.

Requirements

  • Licensed and registered in the state of Vermont.
  • Board eligible or certified.
  • Psychiatrists performing ECT must have education at least every two years and have ACLS certification.
  • Maintain clinical privileges and necessary professional licenses and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the evaluation and care of assigned caseload and additional medical duties as needed to provide appropriate care to patients, at hours and clinical care sites reasonably determined by employer, consistent with training and expertise of the psychiatrist.
  • Provides patient treatment according to unit guidelines and medical staff practice standards, including seeing each assigned patient on an appropriate daily basis, ordering tests, procedures, and consultations that are clinically essential to clarify diagnosis and provide assessment and treatment, and completing discharge summaries according to policy.
  • Maintain legible records of all professional services and provide information and documentation required to meet ordinary clinical standards and to meet relevant regulatory requirements and to enable the Brattleboro Retreat to bill for such services.
  • Serves as a leader of interdisciplinary treatment team in order to coordinate team's functioning and optimize patient care and treatment.
  • Abides by Medical Staff by-laws, Brattleboro Retreat Policies and Procedures, as well as Medical Staff Rules and Regulations.
  • Provides services to marketing.
  • Provides education internally and externally.
  • Responds to internal and external requests for information in a timely fashion; billing shall be submitted on a daily basis.
  • Initiates follow up contact with referral sources and patient aftercare providers.
  • Participates in training and professional education programs including JCAHO preparation, inservice training programs and similar activities.
  • Provides back-up when other physicians are not available.
  • Participates in 24-hour on-call patient coverage and follows EMTALA requirements.
