Staff Product Manager, Atlas Infinite

MongoDB•United States, CA

About The Position

The Staff Product Manager is an individual-contributor product leader responsible for a broad platform surface for Atlas Infinite at MongoDB. Atlas Infinite is described as MongoDB Atlas’s largest architectural innovation, built to meet the speed and scale demands of modern development. This role owns end-to-end problems across the product’s user and database experiences, including feature discovery, activation, monetization, and retention. The product manager identifies opportunities and risks across areas, makes cross-team product and architectural trade-offs, establishes reusable product-management standards, and aligns senior stakeholders around multi-year investments. The role partners with engineering leaders, product peers, and executives to guide a portfolio spanning Atlas Infinite’s disaggregated compute and storage architecture, production workload readiness, migration and Atlas interoperability, and new customer experiences enabled by the architecture. With the AWS public preview live, the product manager will use real workload evidence to shape a path to general availability and subsequent releases, while discovering opportunities beyond the current roadmap. The position may be based at a MongoDB office or remotely in the United States. The role includes setting product vision, coordinating cross-team execution and readiness, improving customer and market research practices, resolving complex product-health issues, conducting customer discovery, supporting go-to-market work, communicating with executives, and mentoring product managers. Success is measured through clearer understanding of workload fit and adoption needs, evidence-informed roadmap and readiness decisions, and measurable progress in qualified adoption, customer experience, and broader workload readiness.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of product management or equivalent product leadership experience.
  • A track record of personally shaping strategy and outcomes for complex technical platforms across multiple teams, rather than only coordinating delivery.
  • Strong technical fluency in cloud databases, distributed data systems, storage infrastructure, developer experiences, or an adjacent developer platform.
  • Ability to reason with engineers about architecture, performance, availability, data movement, and trade-offs without needing to be the system designer.
  • Demonstrated ability to discover opportunities beyond the current roadmap, connect technical possibilities to unmet customer needs, formulate and test hypotheses, notice patterns, and change direction when evidence warrants it.
  • Experience taking a complex product from early adoption toward dependable, broader use while preserving space for longer-term innovation and making explicit trade-offs among customer trust, technical readiness, speed, and investment.
  • Proven ability to influence without authority and negotiate sequencing and resource trade-offs across partner teams with competing priorities.
  • Commercial and analytical judgment, including assessing workload-level value, adoption and usage evidence, competitive alternatives, pricing and unit economics, and the impact of a new product on an existing portfolio.
  • Comfort with build-versus-buy questions where relevant.
  • Ability to improve customer discovery and product decision-making across teams through useful shared methods and mentorship without adding unnecessary process.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including explaining a technical and commercial thesis, its uncertainties, and evidence that could change the direction to engineers, customers, executives, and go-to-market partners.

Responsibilities

  • Set and champion a product vision across Atlas Infinite capabilities, discover opportunities beyond the current roadmap, and make investment and prioritization cases, including build-versus-buy considerations.
  • Explore how decoupled compute and storage may serve developers, enterprises, and emerging AI workloads; use hypotheses, customer evidence, prototypes, and market signals to identify unmet needs and distinguish exploratory vision from release commitments.
  • Own execution health across workstreams with program management, negotiating sequencing, scope, and resource trade-offs with engineering leaders and peer product managers.
  • Align preview-to-GA readiness, roadmaps, and dependencies across database, storage, Atlas platform, migration, backup, security, and cloud infrastructure teams with company objectives.
  • Establish lightweight operating practices and shared customer and market research frameworks for workload qualification, customer-representative testing, win/loss analysis, launch readiness, and post-launch learning.
  • Resolve complex post-launch escalations that span architecture, performance, migration, observability, supportability, or unclear ownership, and turn customer and operational signals into systemic product fixes.
  • Identify customer needs and competitive dynamics across product areas; combine interviews, workload and pricing evidence, product analytics, field feedback, and experiments to test hypotheses and inform roadmap changes.
  • Partner with product marketing, pricing, sales, solutions architecture, customer success, documentation, and support on customer engagements, positioning, and omni-channel marketing.
  • Establish the ideal customer profile, ensure product claims and migration guidance reflect demonstrated capabilities, and turn successful adoption and enablement approaches into shared playbooks.
  • Present customer experience, technical readiness, adoption, and commercial impact to senior leadership; surface cross-area risks, progress, and trade-offs early.
  • Mentor product managers across the area on cross-team alignment, customer evidence, technical trade-offs, multi-year bets, and leadership communication.
