About The Position

PatientPoint’s Platform team builds and operates the cloud platform that engineers use to ship patient- and provider-facing products safely and quickly. The Staff Platform Engineer owns complex technical problems spanning systems and teams, converting ambiguous goals such as safer deployments or fewer pages into multi-quarter plans and driving them to completion. The role remains hands-on, including writing critical changes and design documents, while helping other engineers grow. The engineer leads cross-system platform programs, sets technical direction, defines reliability expectations, sequences risky changes, and identifies priorities using cost and risk considerations. The position works across Engineering and Security and supports safe production delivery of reliability improvements.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in software engineering, cloud or infrastructure engineering, systems or network administration, site reliability, DevOps, or platform engineering.
  • Deep, hands-on experience designing and operating production cloud infrastructure, containers, and CI/CD, such as AWS and Kubernetes or similar, with infrastructure as code.
  • Experience leading a technical initiative spanning multiple systems or teams from proposal through completion.
  • Experience designing for reliability and security, including access models, deployment safety, observability, and incident response.
  • Ability to influence teams and leadership without formal authority.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, turning it into a plan with milestones and quantifying tradeoffs.
  • Clear technical writing, including design documents and proposals usable by technical and non-technical readers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing Kubernetes platforms, such as EKS and GitOps, and multi-account AWS organizations, IAM, and cross-account networking; Azure experience is a plus.
  • Experience securing CI/CD through federated identity, short-lived credentials, secrets management, and software supply-chain controls.
  • Experience setting service level objectives and alerting strategy with New Relic, PagerDuty, or similar tools.
  • Experience with build-versus-buy and vendor evaluations, including AI-assisted tooling for operational work, in a regulated environment such as healthcare (HIPAA, SOC 2).
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-quarter programs spanning multiple systems, including cloud accounts, CI/CD, identity, and artifact management.
  • Set technical direction for a large part of the platform through design documents and decision records, building agreement across Engineering and Security.
  • Define reliability for supported services, including service levels, alerting, and on-call design that routes problems to people who can resolve them.
  • Sequence risky changes across interconnected systems to avoid regressions and ensure reliability fixes from the SRE team reach production safely.
  • Identify the team’s next priorities and make the case using cost and risk.
  • Mentor Senior engineers through design reviews and remain hands-on with the most critical changes.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation
  • Flexible time off
  • Hybrid work options
  • Mental and emotional wellness resources
  • 401K plan
