About The Position

The UC Irvine Student Health Center is a comprehensive outpatient clinic staffed with licensed primary care physicians, psychiatrists, licensed clinical social workers, dentists, physician assistants, registered nurse practitioners, and registered nurses. Medical specialists from various disciplines including dermatology, orthopedics/sports medicine, gynecology, internal medicine, and ENT provide on-site consultation on a regular basis. Student Health also offers basic radiology and clinical laboratory services, insurance consultation, and an on-site pharmacy, making SHC a comprehensive and convenient clinic dedicated to serving students. Under general direction of the Medical Director or the Senior Lead Physician, the Staff Physician provides medical services to patients on a regularly scheduled or walk-in basis. The Staff Physician serves as a clinician, making preliminary or conclusive diagnosis and providing treatment for the diagnosis. Staff Physicians examine patients and diagnose their illness, prescribe and administer medical treatment and advise patients on how to use prescribed treatments.

Requirements

  • Board certified in an appropriate board as recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).
  • General knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Knowledge of diagnostic and medical practice covering an extensive and varied range of problems.
  • Skills in taking medical history and physical diagnosis with minimal dependence on laboratory tests and outside consultants.
  • Knowledge of gynecological principles and practices that is applicable to women students, including birth control concerns, care of gynecological abnormalities and illnesses.
  • Knowledge of standards of medical care and accepted practice in the community.
  • Knowledge of mental health/psychiatric principles and practices that is applicable to college students (depression, anxiety, ADHD, etc.), and delivery of care in collaboration with mental and behavioral health care providers to better meet their patients’ needs.
  • Knowledge of and skill in proper medical record charting to maintain appropriate quality assurance standards of the clinic.
  • Experience in delivering telehealth services via Zoom or other video platforms, following standards of medical care and accepted practice in the community.
  • Ability to relate to and communicate with students.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and peers to maintain a friendly, cooperative approach in the care of students
  • Ability to handle a versatile caseload to include skin disorders, STD, sports injuries, mental health issues, as well as usual general medical problems.
  • Awareness of community services and facilities available for care of seriously ill students.
  • Must be in compliance with the National Practitioner Data Bank and Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank.
  • MD, or recognized equivalent.
  • Must hold a current license to practice medicine in the State of California.
  • Maintains current BLS/CPR (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification.
  • Maintains an active and current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification.
  • Board certified in an appropriate board as recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or equivalent training and/or experience as evaluated by the program Medical Director.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in practicing medicine within a Student Health Center.
  • Experience in "Point and Click Solutions" or similar College Health Electronic Medical Records System.
  • 1-3 years
