About The Position

This position provides a full range of emergency services and crisis intervention, including life-saving emergency procedures, to stabilize patients until a higher level of care is available. The physician will provide emergent or urgent patient care, including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients presenting to the Emergency Department. This role involves obtaining health and developmental histories, performing physical exams, recording findings, formulating differential diagnoses, and developing care plans. The physician will also perform or request diagnostic tests, interpret results, and recognize early signs of serious physical or emotional problems. Decision-making regarding patient medical needs, including treatment modalities, prescribed medications, and consultations, is a key aspect. The position requires participation with other professionals and agencies for managing infectious disease, environmental health, and health education. Maintaining up-to-date medical knowledge through continuing education is essential. The physician will teach patients and family members about health maintenance and improvement, comply with departmental policies, and participate in Quality Assurance (QA) and Performance Improvement (PI) processes. The role requires working in all areas of the Emergency Department, including the main Emergency Room, Observation Unit, and Fast Track. The physician will serve as the Emergency Department representative to hospital committees and provide physician supervision of advanced practice clinicians. As a member of the Medical Staff, the physician is responsible for adhering to Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and Performance Improvement activities. The position requires the ability to work on a regularly assigned, rotation, or call-back basis, including evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends, to ensure continuity of medical services. Requirements

  • Applicant must have a valid unrestricted insurable drivers license.
  • Resume and references are required.
  • Completion of a Residency Program in Emergency Medicine or have three (3) years Emergency Medicine experience if a non-Emergency Medicine Residency Program was completed.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical School Program.
  • Active, unrestricted Medical License from any U.S. State or Territory.

Responsibilities

  • Provides full range of emergency services or crisis intervention including lifesaving emergency procedures in order to stabilize a patient sufficiently until a higher level of care is available.
  • Provides emergent or urgent patient care including evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for patients that present to the Emergency Department.
  • Obtains a health and developmental history from the patient or family member and performs a detailed physical exam, records findings, and formulates differential diagnoses and develops plan of care.
  • Performs or requests screening or diagnostic tests and interprets the results. Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical or emotional problems.
  • Makes decisions concerning the medical needs of patients, which may involve various treatment modalities, prescribed medications, consultation and referral when appropriate.
  • Participates with other professionals and agencies as needed or as required, regarding management of infectious disease, environmental health and health education.
  • Maintains knowledge and proficiency in up to date medical practices through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops, and home study.
  • Recognizes when a patient requires a higher level of care and stabilizes the patient until a higher level of care is available.
  • Teaches patients and family member’s ways to maintain or improve their health status.
  • Complies with departmental policies and guidelines.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance (QA) and Performance Improvement (PI) review processes.
  • Will be required to work in all areas of the Emergency Department including the main Emergency Room, Observation Unit and Fast Track.
  • Serves as the Emergency Department representative to hospital committees as assigned.
  • Provides appropriate physician supervision of advanced practice clinicians in the emergency medicine services setting.
  • Serves as a member of the Medical Staff and is responsible for all associated duties including following Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, Performance Improvement activities and comply with all requirements for appointment and maintain status as an active member of the medical staff.
  • Ability to work on a regularly assigned, rotation or call back basis to provide continuity of medical services during evenings, nights holidays, and weekends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
