DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy - In-Patient JOB TITLE: Staff Pharmacist SHIFT: PRN, Part-time (as needed) Summary/Objective Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the accurate identification, preparation and distribution of drugs, the monitoring of patient drug therapies, and the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients served. Pharmacists supervise and direct ancillary personnel (technician, interns) working in their immediate area. In the absence of the Pharmacy Director, or Assistant Pharmacy Director, a pharmacist may be required to assume essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the Pharmacy Director.

Requirements

  • Experience as a hospital pharmacist for one year, or residency preferred, but not required
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with physicians, various medical center personnel, and patients when explaining prescription use and/or gathering and exchanging other medication information.
  • Analytical skills necessary to determine drug appropriateness and evaluate drug interactions.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when reading and interpreting physician orders and related materials and examining and closely inspecting materials when filling medications orders.
  • Ability to prepare and dispense medications in accordance with established hospital and departmental procedures.
  • Graduate of an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy
  • Active Indiana Pharmacist License required

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and dispenses drug orders per physician request according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective drug therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department.
  • Maintains competency required for current job title/position.
