About The Position

CVS Health Staff Pharmacists help manage and improve patient health through safe dispensing, counseling, immunization, and pharmacist-delivered clinical services where permissible. They support the Pharmacy Manager in leading the pharmacy team and overseeing pharmacy operations, and may serve as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during shifts without overlap or assume day-to-day duties when acting as the only or primary pharmacist on duty. The role emphasizes patient safety, compassionate care, regulatory compliance, pharmacy performance, and a safe, inclusive, and engaging team environment. Staff Pharmacists maintain relevant clinical and technical skills as the industry evolves and remain flexible to meet scheduling and business needs.

Requirements

• Active pharmacist license in the state where the store is located.
• Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
• Must not be on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
• Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
• Ability to concentrate, switch tasks quickly, and confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
• Customer service and team orientation, including responding appropriately to patients’ reactions.
• Verbal and written communication skills, including active listening.
• Mathematical reasoning skills to calculate quantities, days’ supply, and bottle counts for prescriptions.
• Ability to identify challenging patient or colleague interactions and select an appropriate course of action.
• Ability to meet the role’s physical demands, including standing or remaining upright for extended periods, mobility, reaching, repetitive finger movements, stooping, close visual work, and lifting or exerting force as described in the posting.
• Ability to communicate detailed information orally and accurately convey spoken instructions.

Responsibilities

• Help manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
• Take direction from the Pharmacy Manager and oversee the pharmacy as their proxy during bench shifts without overlap.
• Support pharmacy performance through effective coaching, consistent follow-up with pharmacy team members, and feedback to the Pharmacy Manager.
• Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day-to-day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist on duty.
• Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following and directing the pharmacy team to follow workflow procedures and safety guardrails.
• Promote positive patient experiences through empathy, compassionate care, collaboration with patients’ healthcare teams, and proactive resolution of insurance or medication issues.
• Offer and deliver immunizations and support Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
• Manage pharmacy inventory according to best practices, with special attention to protecting cold chain products.
• Partner with the Pharmacy Manager to maintain compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations and escalate issues as needed.
• Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs; support schedule writing if directed by the Pharmacy Manager.
• Maintain relevant clinical and technical skills, complete required training and continuing education, and seek opportunities to expand knowledge.
• Support access to care and patient outcomes through pharmacist-delivered clinical services, such as testing and prescribing where permissible.
• Comply with applicable laws, regulations, professional standards, ethical principles, and CVS Health policies and procedures, including requirements for controlled substances, privacy, security, and workplace safety.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
• Complete any additional tasks as directed by a Supervisor or Manager.
