About The Position

This role acts as the primary point of contact for clinical staff regarding patient-related questions and concerns. The Staff Perfusionist Lead participates in quality assurance measures and provides technical instruction for clinical procedures as needed. A key responsibility is assisting the System Chief Perfusionist in onboarding new Perfusionist and Perfusionist Assistant staff, including orientation, professional development, monitoring progression to independence, and determining further training needs. This role also supports the System Chief Perfusionist in coordinating Perfusion staff activities such as schedules, daily responsibilities, continuing medical education, and developing goals and objectives for the team. Additionally, the Lead assists in coordinating and directing in-service teaching programs, collecting and analyzing data for studies and projects, and interviewing perfusion candidates. The position involves monitoring daily activities to ensure objectives are met and assuring appropriate utilization of perfusion staff in collaboration with operational leadership. The Staff Perfusionist Lead maintains clinical practice skills and performs patient care duties, including preparing the operating room, handling contaminated materials, caring for perfusion equipment, maintaining patient records, operating blood salvaging equipment, performing plasmapheresis, and utilizing coagulation monitors. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Certified Perfusionist - American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP)
  • Minimum of 2 years of related work experience
  • Mentoring Skills

Responsibilities

  • Acts as primary point of contact for clinical staff regarding questions and concerns involving patients for general or specific purposes.
  • Participates in quality assurance measures and when needed technical instruction for clinical procedures.
  • Assists System Chief Perfusionist in the onboarding of new Perfusionist and Perfusionist Assistant staff including, but not limited to, their orientation and professional development, monitoring progression to independence following appropriate training, and determination if further training may be required.
  • Assists System Chief Perfusionist in coordinating activities of Perfusion staff including, but not limited to, schedules, daily responsibilities, continuing medical education, and other duties as assigned by the System Chief Perfusionist , Associate Vice President and Vice President.
  • Assists System Chief Perfusionist in the ongoing development of goals and objectives for the Perfusion staff, both individually and collectively.
  • Assists the System Chief Perfusionist in coordinating and directing in-service teaching programs on perfusion and related technologies.
  • Assists the System Chief Perfusionist in coordinating collection and analysis of data for studies, projects, and clinical monitoring, etc.
  • Assists with interviewing perfusion candidates.
  • Assists System Chief Perfusionist in monitoring the daily schedule of activities to ensure objectives are met.
  • Assists System Chief Perfusionist and operational leadership in assuring appropriate utilization of perfusion staff.
  • Maintains clinical practice skills and patient care duties.
  • Performs the duties of a staff perfusionist; assists in preparing the operating room for surgery relative to perfusion services; handles and disposes of contaminated materials and equipment using aseptic technique to prevent spread of infection; assists with care and selection of perfusion equipment in the operating room; cleans equipment; maintains patient records on perfusion services; operates blood salvaging equipment; performs plasmapheresis procedures where necessary; utilizes coagulation monitors to aid in the diagnosis of abnormal coagulation conditions.
