Staff PCB Layout Design Engineer

General MotorsSunnyvale, CA
$217,630 - $245,000Hybrid

About The Position

This role focuses on creating and designing the physical layout of integrated circuits (ICs) or printed circuit boards (PCBs). The engineer will be responsible for placing and routing components, traces, and other elements to ensure proper functionality and performance. A key aspect of the role involves creating and verifying the layout design through design rule checks (DRC) and design for manufacturability (DFM) checks, ensuring adherence to specifications, constraints, and manufacturing capabilities. The position requires close collaboration with other design teams, including circuit designers, system engineers, and packaging engineers, to understand and meet design requirements. Optimization of the layout for performance, power, area, and manufacturability is crucial. The engineer will also select appropriate technology and processes, optimize for signal integrity, power distribution, thermal management, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and ensure the design meets performance and reliability criteria. Support for ECAD librarians in developing library parts that meet PCBA Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and GM resiliency requirements is also expected. The role involves managing PCBA prototype, EVT, and DVT assembly and test at a manufacturing contractor, collaborating with component engineers, procurement, and supply chain teams for component selection, and applying Design for Assembly (DFA) principles. Close work with manufacturing and processing engineering teams to optimize PCBA manufacturing processes and collaboration with test engineers to ensure Design for Test (DFT) is also part of the responsibilities. The engineer will create and maintain documentation and identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and quality enhancement in PCBA manufacturing. Mentoring and fostering collaboration with other engineers is also a key duty. This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days in-office and 2 days remote, with the ability to report to a local office.
