About The Position

Wellstar Health System is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Staff Pathologist to join the pathology team at Wellstar Health System's flagship hospital, Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center. This position offers the opportunity to practice in a high-volume, tertiary-care medical center serving a diverse patient population across the region. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in Anatomic Pathology (AP) and Cytopathology, with a commitment to delivering high-quality diagnostic services, supporting multidisciplinary care teams, and contributing to the educational and quality initiatives of the department.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an accredited residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) or Anatomic Pathology (AP).
  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Anatomic Pathology and/or Anatomic & Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
  • Fellowship training in Cytopathology.
  • Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Georgia.
  • Strong diagnostic skills in surgical pathology and cytopathology.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of post-training experience in a hospital-based pathology practice.
  • Experience with complex oncologic specimens and tertiary-care pathology services.
  • Experience performing and interpreting fine needle aspirations.
  • Interest in quality improvement, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and diagnose a broad range of surgical pathology specimens in a high-volume hospital setting.
  • Provide expertise in gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytopathology, including fine needle aspiration (FNA) interpretation.
  • Perform rapid on-site evaluations (ROSE) when appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with clinicians, surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, and other specialists to support patient care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and clinical conferences.
  • Maintain accurate and timely pathology reports in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Support quality assurance, quality improvement, and laboratory accreditation activities.
  • Participate in call coverage and departmental responsibilities as assigned.
  • Contribute to the education of medical students, residents, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals as applicable.
  • Remain current with evolving pathology practices, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
