About The Position

The Optical Validation Team supports development, new product introduction (NPI), and post-production testing of optical transceivers, switches, and technologies used in Google Cloud Platforms. The team tests new optical transceiver designs and performs unit, environmental, and system qualification across host networking and compute platforms, optical circuit switches (OCS), and wafer-level transceiver component designs. The Staff Optical Validation Engineer helps develop Google Cloud network infrastructure by leading the planning and execution of tests for novel and complex networking hardware configurations. The role collaborates with hardware and software teams to configure laboratory networks and test infrastructure, evaluate and characterize cloud computing and networking products, and provide technical leadership to the optical validation team. It also improves test methodologies and practices and supports clean, state-of-the-art lab capabilities for developing and productizing optical solutions in Google data centers. Platforms Infrastructure Engineering designs and builds the hardware and software technologies that power Google's services. The team develops custom hardware for Google's computing infrastructure, taking systems from concept through high-volume manufacturing.

Requirements
