Staff Operations Planning Engineer

Crescent Energy•Houston, TX

About The Position

Crescent Energy is seeking a Staff Operations Planning Engineer to own integrated planning for assigned asset areas. The role translates development strategy and technical inputs into executable schedules and coordinated production, capital, and economic outlooks. The engineer partners across Asset Development, Operations, Drilling and Completions, Facilities, Land, Regulatory, Marketing, Accounting, FP&A, and Data & Analytics. The role coordinates planning from inventory selection and well readiness through first production, evaluates development alternatives, and uses performance analysis to improve future plans. The successful candidate works independently in a fast-paced environment, brings clarity to complex assignments, and builds alignment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in upstream oil and gas planning, reservoir, production, operations, corporate planning, development planning, or technical analytics.
  • Strong understanding of unconventional development planning, including drilling, completions, facilities, production, well readiness, schedule dependencies, and inventory pacing.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence across engineering, operations, accounting, finance, analytics, and leadership teams.
  • Experience with ARIES, DSO / Actenum, Enersight, ComboCurve, or comparable development planning, scenario planning, or forecasting software.
  • Strong working knowledge of production forecasting, capital forecasting, AFEs, accruals, actuals-to-forecast reconciliation, and forecast-to-forecast variance analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency with Spotfire or comparable BI / visualization tools.
  • Strong Excel capability, including structured model inputs, feeder files, linked workflows, and complex forecast models.
  • Experience with SQL, Snowflake, Python, Power BI, or other data workflow / analytics tools.
  • Experience using approved AI-assisted development tools to build scripts, test logic, write documentation, or accelerate dashboard and workflow prototypes.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability to improve recurring workflows, automate manual processes, build dashboards, and create durable standard work.
  • Experience supporting monthly forecasting, quarterly outlooks, annual budgeting, long-range planning, reserves, or corporate guidance processes.
  • Experience with production actuals, SAP actuals, accrual databases, AFE systems, production scorecards, or model-input workflows.
  • Experience developing process maps, RACIs, runbooks, QC routines, exception reports, and operating calendars.
  • Experience in acquisition integration, system migration, process transformation, or cross-asset standardization.

Responsibilities

  • Own integrated asset planning, translating development strategy into executable near-term and multi-year plans that align inventory, operational activity, infrastructure, and capital with business objectives.
  • Serve as the central connection between asset teams and FP&A, integrating inputs across Reservoir Engineering, Geoscience, Well Delivery, Operations, Land, Marketing, and Accounting into a consistent operational and financial outlook.
  • Lead scenario evaluation of development pace, rig and completion activity, sequencing alternatives, and capital deployment to quantify returns, production outcomes, and execution risk.
  • Lead the asset planning and forecast cycle, coordinating monthly X+Y forecasts, annual budgets, and long-range plans; challenge assumptions, resolve competing priorities, and align asset recommendations with corporate financial objectives.
  • Strengthen capital planning and accountability by connecting spending forecasts to development scope, well design, infrastructure requirements, and execution timing; reconcile estimates with AFEs, actual costs, and accruals to explain changes and improve forecast reliability.
  • Coordinate project sanction and investment reviews, bringing together technical, operational, and financial inputs to present development alternatives, economics, risks, and recommendations.
  • Drive performance analysis and continuous improvement by explaining differences between planned and actual results, identifying underlying causes, and incorporating lessons into future development plans and forecasts.
  • Advance the integrated planning framework, ensuring schedules, production forecasts, capital estimates, and economic models remain aligned as operating plans change; partner with forecasting specialists and Data & Analytics to improve connections between DSO / Actenum, ARIES, and corporate reporting.
  • Establish consistent planning standards and controls, defining assumption ownership, validation requirements, and decision documentation so leadership can rely on planning outputs.
  • Improve planning efficiency and analytical capacity by partnering with Data & Analytics to automate recurring work and apply approved analytics and AI tools with appropriate technical review.
  • Lead cross-functional planning discussions, building alignment, resolving dependencies, and escalating decisions that affect asset readiness, financial commitments, or business performance.
  • Integrate acquired assets into Crescent’s planning framework, establishing consistent inventory, schedules, assumptions, and financial inputs to support portfolio visibility and investment decisions.
