About The Position

The Student Health Center (SHC) is seeking a Staff Nurse to provide nursing treatment for Fairfield University students. This role involves operational support within the SHC and assisting with health education for individual patients and outreach programs. The position requires the ability to function during peak demand, handle confidential medical information, and be exposed to various illnesses and bloodborne pathogens.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse in CT
  • CPR certification is required
  • 3-5 years nursing experience
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree preferred
  • Continuing education in late adolescent issues
  • Emergency room experience helpful

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing treatment for Fairfield University students, ensuring compliance with physician/APRN orders, the Nurse Practice Act, and departmental policies. This includes conducting initial nursing assessments, collaborating on diagnostic/treatment plans, administering medications and immunizations, assisting in emergency procedures, coordinating with university departments, arranging transportation for students, fostering a trusting environment, and maintaining nursing competencies.
  • Provides operational support within the SHC, including maintaining and updating medical records, scheduling referral appointments, and facilitating physician/APRN review of diagnostic reports.
  • Assists with the preparation and execution of preventative, wellness, and health educational programs.
  • Supports the Health Center by greeting, assisting, and referring visitors, students, and callers, and responding to information requests.
  • Develops competency in utilizing Fairfield University's Information Technology Services, including Banner, Gallagher-Student Health Insurance website, Microsoft Outlook, my.fairfield web platform, and Medicat Practice Management system.
  • Promotes safe working conditions by ensuring proper utilization of equipment, reporting unsafe conditions, and adhering to Infection Control Policy and Procedure.
  • Participates in the growth and development of the Health Center by staying informed of health concerns and procedures, monitoring healthcare developments, attending meetings, communicating effectively with the SHC Director, and promoting an image of efficiency and courtesy consistent with the SHC/university mission.
  • Participates in assigned SHC committee work, such as the Risk Management Committee and Quality Improvement Committee.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
  • Administers allergy desensitization injections.
