About The Position

This position is for a Staff Nurse working night shifts (7p-7a) with rotating days and every other weekend as needed. The role involves float population duties. Key functions include patient care, which encompasses assessment and care planning, being an effective member of the interdisciplinary team, and providing nursing interventions. The nurse will set appropriate goals, perform bio-psycho-social assessments, develop comprehensive nursing care plans, and utilize the nursing process. They will modify care plans based on ongoing assessment, ensure effective health teaching for patients and families, and manage discharge planning related to nursing care needs. The role also requires observing, documenting, and communicating patient responses, ensuring safety through rounds and environmental assessments, seeking feedback, supporting interdisciplinary relationships, responding professionally, demonstrating good judgment and appropriate behavior, participating in performance improvement activities, and relieving the charge nurse as assigned. Additionally, the nurse must demonstrate knowledge of medication actions, provide safe and timely medication administration, and engage patients in their treatment programs. Hospital operations include participating in committees, performance improvement initiatives, and training students and new staff.

Requirements

BSN
Current license to practice as RN in state of Texas
Two years experience in psychiatric nursing

Responsibilities

Sets appropriate goals; including the physical, psychological, social, and continuing care needs of each patient; evaluates nursing actions to meet those goals; and makes recommendations for any changes.
Demonstrates effective bio-psycho-social assessment skills
Develops comprehensive nursing care plans based on nursing diagnosis and standards of care, clearly written with expected outcomes
Effectively utilizes nursing process in directing and providing patient care
Modifies plan of care based on ongoing patient assessment
Insures effective health teaching for patients and families
Insures comprehensive discharge planning relative to nursing care needs
Observes, documents and communicates patient responses and effectiveness of nursing intervention and medication; documents in patient’s medical record according to established policy and procedure
Insures safety by making patient and safety rounds according to policy, regularly assessing physical environments, and follow-up for identified concerns
Seeks constructive feedback from co-workers regarding performance, interpersonal relations, nursing skills and abilities; recognizes limitations through self-appraisal and peer review. Effectively utilizes management and clinical supervision
Supports and encourages constructive working relationship with program and other disciplines / departments while valuing opposing ideas
Responds to patients, staff and visitors in professional manner
Demonstrates good judgment and behavior appropriate to the hospital, including such characteristics as grooming and personal appearance, speech, and personal hygiene
Participates in performance improvement activities
Relieves charge nurse in his / her absence as assigned
Demonstrates knowledge of medication action, mode of administration, side effects and contraindications by successfully completing annual medication examination.
Provides safe and timely administration of medication and prescribed treatments, insuring prompt reporting of all errors
Effectively engages patients in full participation of treatment program
Seeks opportunities to participate in hospital committees, performance improvement initiatives, and activities
Participates in orientation and training of students and new staff
