About The Position

This CDCES certified or CDCES eligible RN will support the Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes division in the inpatient and outpatient locations. Shared responsibilities associated with this position include high risk counseling, training, and management for pediatric patients with diabetes and their families. This position will require time in person and on the phone. Inpatient care needs include providing diabetes education to patients with newly diagnosed or known diabetes and their families daily and reviewing plan of care/discharge plan. Outpatient care needs include blood sugar crisis management with families and school nurses, providing diabetes management support to patients and providers in the outpatient ambulatory clinics, and new onset type 2 education and/or transition to insulin education maintaining continuity of care. The nursing staff work to ensure patient compliance with medications, follow up care, and technology management and usage. The RN will assist with clinical administrative tasks as well, such as medication prior authorizations, enrollment forms associated with diabetes technology and supplies, and school forms (DMAFs). This position is four days per week- Three-9.5 hour shits and One- 9 hour shift.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
  • New York State license for Registered Professional Nurse and current registration of valid permit to practice in New York State as an RN
  • Three (3)+ years of clinical experience required
  • BLS and Infection Control training required
  • Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist (CDCES) certification required.
  • Experience working with children and their parents/guardians
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to use basic data entry and retrieval systems
