About The Position
University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center North Liberty is seeking Staff Nurses for the Operating Rooms. Staff Nurses perform specific tasks to assist the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager. The position applies nursing theory to patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation, and helps coordinate care across settings. The North Liberty campus is a state-of-the-art facility offering coordinated care across outpatient, inpatient, and surgical settings, with an emphasis on orthopedic services and support for clinical care, education, research, and community partnerships.
Requirements
- An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP) MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by the date of hire.
Nice To Haves
- A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
- If a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing has not yet been obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
- Knowledge of university policies and procedures is desired.
- Previous operating room experience is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Apply nursing theory to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patient responses to health and illness.
- Assess patients’ health care preferences and expectations.
- Collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across settings.
- Develop patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions, prescribing interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Implement patient care plans according to patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses; document and report interventions and patient and family responses.
- Collaborate with patients and families and integrate their contributions into multidisciplinary patient care plans.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement transfer and discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
- Implement nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Follow universal precautions.
