About The Position

The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient-centered 50% Staff Nurse to work within our Psychiatry Clinic located in Bettendorf, IA. This position utilizes a patient-centered care approach, involving a partnership between the nurse and a team of providers, nurses, and therapists to develop a treatment plan that meets patient needs. The role will primarily support the Psychiatry Clinic but may also support other service lines/clinics based on clinical needs and hours. Staff Nurses develop relationships with patients, monitor their healthcare history, and deliver personalized, compassionate care. Requirements

  • Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • General computer skills.
  • Current course completion card in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association.
  • Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Psychiatric nurse certification.
  • Previous Psychiatric patient care experience.
  • 3 - 5 years of recent staff nurse level experience in adult Psychiatry inpatient and/or outpatient setting.
  • Current experience in self-directed, independent roles (autonomous work ability).
  • 1 year minimum triage experience required (within the last 3 years).
  • Previous adult/family medicine or psychiatric patient experience.
  • Demonstrated experience fostering a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment.
  • Previous EPIC experience.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Psychiatry Clinic and float to other clinical areas based on staffing needs.
  • Apply nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
  • Assess patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across settings.
  • Perform telephone triage to support Bettendorf clinics including Dermatology, Family Medicine, Endocrinology, and Pediatric Outreach.
  • Develop patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions, prescribing interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implement patient care plans according to patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses, and document/report interventions and patient/family response.
  • Collaborate and integrate contributions of patients and families into the multidisciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
  • Implement nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Follow universal precautions.
