About The Position

University of Iowa Health Care is hiring a Staff Nurse for its Main Operating Room, Neurosurgery/Orthopedics Teams 2&3. The teams provide adult surgical care, including brain, neurointerventional, skull base, spine, orthopedic trauma, and device implantation procedures. The Main Operating Rooms have 30 operating rooms dedicated to adult surgical specialties, operate 24/7, and are organized into five teams staffed by registered nurses and surgical technologists. This position applies nursing theory to patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation; develops and implements individualized care plans; coordinates care across settings; collaborates with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams; plans transfers and discharges; and follows unit policies and universal precautions to maintain a safe environment. The position is based at the University Campus and is scheduled Friday and Saturday, 07:00–19:30. The listed effort is 60%.

Requirements

An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with patients and families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members, demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
General computer skills.
Current license to practice nursing in Iowa by the date of hire.

Nice To Haves

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing.
If a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing has not yet been obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program.
Knowledge of university policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Apply nursing theory to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patient responses to health and illness.
Assess patients’ health care preferences and expectations.
Collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across settings.
Develop patient care plans based on the patient’s condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic circumstances, prescribing interventions to achieve expected outcomes.
Implement patient care plans according to patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses, and document or report interventions and patient and family responses.
Collaborate with patients and families and integrate their contributions into multidisciplinary patient care plans.
Develop, coordinate, and implement transfer and discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
Implement nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Follow universal precautions.
