About The Position

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking skilled staff nurses for their Nursing Float Pool (Tier 3), also known as the Enterprise Staffing Pool, for Adult Intermediate Care Services. These staff nurses will circulate several services to cover intermediate step-down units at University of Iowa Health Care University Campus, UI Health Care Downtown Campus, and UI Health Care North Liberty Campus. The role involves applying nursing theory to patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation, as well as coordinating care across settings and developing patient care plans. The nurse will implement and document interventions, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and manage discharge planning. They will also implement nursing interventions according to policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment and follow universal precautions. Assignments are prescheduled for planned vacancies and FMLAs, typically lasting 4 weeks, with the ability to cover assignments just-in-time as needed. The nurse will float within the specialty between MCU, MCD, and MCNL campuses. Weekend and holiday work requirements are subject to adjustment based on manager discretion and operational needs.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required
  • 2 or more years of current experience with Adult Intermediate Care is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
  • General computer skills are required, including proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is highly desired
  • Current or Prior Agency experience desired
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable
  • A minimum of 2 years of inpatient nursing experience, preferably within the last 5 years, is highly desired

Responsibilities

  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses.
  • Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
