About The Position

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking skilled staff nurses for their Nursing Float Pool (Tier 1), also known as the Enterprise Staffing Pool, for Adult Critical Care Services. These staff nurses will circulate several services to cover critical care units at University of Iowa Health Care University Campus. They will apply nursing theory to patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness. They will assess patient health care preferences and expectations, collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across settings, and implement patient care plans according to patient priorities. This role involves developing, coordinating, and implementing transfer/discharge planning, and implementing nursing interventions according to policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment. The position includes just-in-time assignments, anticipated 4-12 hours in an area, and holiday and weekend requirements, with the ability to float between many units within the MCU campus.

Requirements

  • 1 or more years of current experience with Adult Critical Care/ICU is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
  • General computer skills are required, including proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is highly desired
  • 2 or more years of current experience with Adult Critical Care is desired
  • CRRT trained/experience is preferred
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectation
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff
  • Follows universal precautions
  • Just in time assignments (cover sign offs, census flexing)
  • Anticipated 4-12 hours in an area
  • Holiday and weekend requirements
  • Float between many units within MCU campus
