Standards of Practice Assessment Medical/Pediatric Nurse collects pertinent date and information relative to patient health or situation. Diagnosis Medical/Pediatric Nurse analyzes assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses, problems or issues. Outcome Identification Medical/Pediatric Nurse identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient. Planning Medical/Pediatric Nurse develops a plan of care that includes interventions to attain expected measurable outcomes. Implementation Medical/Pediatric Nurse implements the individualized patient plan of care. Evaluation Medical/Pediatric Nurse evaluates progress toward attainment of patient goals and outcomes. Essential Job Duties: Standards of Professional Performance Ethics Medical-surgical nurses deliver care in a nonjudgmental, nondiscriminatory, sensitive, and culturally competent manner. Diversification Medical-surgical nurses interact with, and contribute to, the professional development of peers and other health care providers as colleagues. Communication Medical-surgical nurses communicate effectively with clients, families, and other health care professionals. Collaboration Medical-surgical nurses collaborate with the client, family members, significant others, and health care providers in providing care. Leadership Medical-surgical nurses use leadership skills to enhance client outcomes and foster a healthy work environment within the practice setting and profession. Education Medical-surgical nurses acquire and maintain current knowledge in nursing practice. Medical-surgical nurses pursue knowledge to enhance nursing expertise and advance the profession. Evidence-Based Practice & Research Medical-surgical nurses use research findings in practice. Quality of Practice The Medical/Pediatric Nurse contributes to quality nursing practice. Ensures that nursing practice is safe, effective, efficient, equitable, timely and patient-centered. Professional Practice Evaluation Medical/Pediatric Nurse evaluates his/her own and other's nursing practice in accordance with professional practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies and contributes to the professional development of peers or other health care providers as colleagues. Resource Utilization Medical-surgical nurses use research findings in practice.
