About The Position

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute’s (OSUCCC-James) mission is to improve health in Ohio and across the world through innovation in research, education, and patient care. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient’s involvement in their own plan of care, and reducing the length of hospitalization. The Staff Nurse plays a critical role in staff engagement, the patient experience, quality and safety, and cost-effective care. The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and their family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating, and evaluating the nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model. This is a 36-bed fast-paced unit serving patients with solid tumor cancers who are admitted with various medical complications. Common cancer diagnoses on the unit include breast, lung, and GI cancers, among others. Patients typically have complicated medical histories and cancer journeys, with many having undergone multiple treatment modalities. Nurses on this unit gain a varied and extensive set of skills and must maintain a high level of clinical knowledge to care for this patient population. The unit emphasizes Relationship Based Care, valuing the care of the patient, self, and colleagues. The nurse functions as part of a multidisciplinary team including RNs, PCAs, Physicians, PAs/NPS, Social Workers, and Patient Care Resource Managers, with additional support from a Staff Educator, a Staff Development Coordinator, and Clinical Nurse Specialists.
