The Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and significant others. This role involves delivering patient care by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care and through the application of the nursing process. The nurse will assess and evaluate patient care needs, apply critical thinking skills, and integrate relevant assessment and intervention skills. Collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team is essential for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care. Responsibilities include prioritizing patient care, educating patients and caregivers, communicating effectively, and managing assignments within the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing. The role also emphasizes patient experience by role-modeling Relationship Centered Care principles, considering patient values and diversity, establishing therapeutic relationships, and initiating service recovery. Quality and safety are paramount, requiring practice of safe, efficient, patient-centered care, identifying and escalating barriers, demonstrating clinical skills, implementing process improvement strategies, and engaging in peer review. Operational duties include performing charge nurse duties, coordinating with management for supplies and staffing, documenting accurately, and facilitating patient throughput. Professional development is encouraged through contributing to the environment of care, advancing clinical competence, incorporating ethical principles, pursuing lifelong learning, and participating in shared decision-making and professional organizations.
