About The Position

This position is represented by the Illinois Nurses Association. Employees at this level participate in a patient care program by applying nursing skills in direct patient care and by planning, demonstrating, and supervising patient care activities in an assigned area. They work under general supervision from a designated supervisor.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
  • Out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position.
  • Application must include a complete and detailed employment history that highlights relevant full-time and part-time work experience, including start and end dates of employment.
  • Relevant part-time work experience will count towards the qualifications for this position and will be converted to full-time equivalence to calculate the total length of experience.

  • Veterans who qualify for preference must provide proof of eligibility within ten (10) working days of submitting an application, unless the same proof has already been submitted in a previous application.
  • The required proof of eligibility includes, at a minimum, a copy of the veteran's DD214/DD215 form (Department of Defense), NGB22 form (National Guard), or Discharge Orders or DD256 Discharge Certificate (Reserves).

Responsibilities

  • Administer patient care with a high degree of skill, as prescribed by a physician.
  • In accordance with the orders of physicians, programs and sets priorities for the administration of nursing care for a patient group, such selection and delegation of patient care assignments including consideration of staff capacity and special patient needs.
  • Establishes nursing care goals for an individual patient or a patient group, formulates patient care plans, and motivates nursing personnel to follow plans and recognize the relationship of each aspect of care to ultimate goals.
  • Encourages other nursing personnel to identify with the nursing team, to recognize their particular contribution, and to appreciate the role of all health sciences in the group approach to patient care.
  • Establishes unit procedures to effect a coordinated approach to the care of a patient group.
  • Explains departmental and unit policies and procedures, identifies and reports policy and procedural deficiencies, and evaluates new policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates nursing procedures and techniques to assure staff's ability to render effective care.
  • Establishes short-range goals for patient instruction and rehabilitation, plans assignments of nursing personnel to implement these goals, and assists in patient and family instruction.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
