About The Position

This is a part-time Staff Nurse position in the Emergency Services department. The role involves performing patient assessments, collaborating with team members, analyzing data to formulate and implement care plans, and evaluating patient care. Nurses are expected to contribute to a high-performance work environment by seeking educational resources and participating in nursing councils or committees. The position also includes secondary duties specific to the unit, such as recognizing and interpreting patient signs and symptoms, managing crises, assisting with mechanical ventilation, maintaining central lines, communicating via radio, triaging patients, caring for sedated patients, administering emergency drugs, performing EKGs, and assisting with lab specimen collections. Good Samaritan is a 4-time designated Magnet® facility, a TJC Primary Stroke Center, and a Level III Trauma Center with over 115 years of service.

Requirements

  • ACLS provider within 6 months of hire.
  • PALS provider within 6 months of hire.
  • CPI Training within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient assessments in a systematic and organized manner to provide high quality and safe outcomes.
  • Provides direction and collaborates with team members to support a healthy work environment.
  • Analyzes collected data to formulate a plan of care that contributes to high quality and safe outcomes.
  • Implements a plan of care with measurable criteria consistent with work class performance levels.
  • Evaluates the plan of care with the patient and family/support system to maintain world class levels of patient satisfaction and outcomes.
  • Contributes to a high performance work environment by seeking educational resources that enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills.
  • Apply for nursing council or committee and be vested on one council at least every 5 years. 80% attendance in person or by phone is required.
  • Demonstrates recognition, interpretation, and recording of patients signs and symptoms.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge in pathophysiology to anticipate medical and/or nursing interventions.
  • Demonstrates skill in the management of possible crises (trauma, dic, delivery, pacemakers, peritoneal lavge).
  • Assists respiratory therapy in the management of mechanical ventilation.
  • Maintains central lines, midlines, PICC's.
  • Communicates on IHERN radio.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of triaging patient utilizing five level triage method.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency to care for a moderate sedated patient.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medical emergency drugs (titrating cardiac drugs).
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to administer thrombolytic therapy.
  • Demonstrates knowledge to take charge on Code Blue until physician arrives.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability for outpatient procedures (blood patch, paracentesis, ocl splinting, etc.).
  • Demonstrates correct use of the Tracking Board.
  • Performs 12 lead EKG's in collaboration with Cardiology Department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and assists with adult & pediatric patients.
  • Assists with lab specimen collections in collaboration with Laboratory.
