About The Position

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s mission is to improve health in Ohio and across the world through innovation in research, education, and patient care. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient’s involvement in his/her own plan of care and reducing the length of hospitalization. The staff nurse plays a critical role in staff engagement, the patient experience, quality and safety, and cost-effective care. The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and his/her family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating and evaluating the nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model. The Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit on the third floor of Dodd Hospital provides comprehensive rehab care for individuals 16+ with brain injury, spinal cord injury, and oncology diagnoses. The unit is supported by an interdisciplinary team and maintains a strong focus on staff and patient safety, clinical excellence, and professional growth. Requirements

  • 2- year College Degree in Nursing from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited nursing program is required.
  • Current Ohio license or interim permit required.
  • Maintains current Ohio RN license.
  • Meets mandatory educational and health requirements.
  • Demonstrates computer skills required to meet job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with a major in Nursing from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited nursing program is preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in rehab or acute care setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and providing care to the patient and his/her family
  • Directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team
  • Assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating and evaluating the nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model
  • Tracheostomy management
  • Wound care, including wound VACs and burn dressings
  • Intermittent catheterization and bowel programs
  • Line and port management
